Very Slow Night

It's Monday night and I'm at the motel with the Spanish name again. I've checked in 3 people all night and I haven't seen anyone for at least 3 hours now.

I've spent most of the night watching shows that I've burnt to disc on the computer in the business center. I've watched the following tonight:

Episode 7 of the mini-series Taken
Episode 13 of this season of The 4400
and episodes 4, 5, and 6 of Californication.

I just realised the the actress that played the girl of the week on episode 6 of Californication is the same actress that plays Jo on Eureka.

I've started writing stories again recently so I'll probably be working on that more at night and maybe only be on here when something really happens worth writing about. I don't think anyone will notice anyway.

Later.

Busy Nights

The last couple of nights have been busy.
We have a group that stays with us once a month and they are here this weekend. It is a class for people who were caught DUI and have lost their license. This is one of the final steps to getting their license back. They all have to be in their rooms before 11:15 P.M. After they go to their rooms the leader of the group puts a strip of tape on the outside of their door so they can tell if they left the room over night. I worry about how effective the lessons are because I've seen some people that have to repeat the class. They have 29 rooms here this week for three nights. Good business.

I've had a lot of walk-ins tonight, 28 so far. I went on a 30 mile bike trip this morning and only got about 4 hours of sleep so I was not really ready for a busy night. I'll sleep well when I get home in the morning.

I rode my bike along the trail that follows the Scioto river to downtown Columbus and then follws the Olentangy River through O.S.U. campus and through northern Columbus. I was surprised by the number of homeless people I saw living along the bike trail today. I saw at least a dozen.

The Buckeyes were playing at home today so the trail was busy going through campus but there were almost no bikers or hikers downtown.

I'll be back tomorrow.

Mistaken Identity

Hello.

I finished the billing for the week and have just been goofing off the rest of the night.

It's been a slow night with only a couple of things worth mentioning.

I had a truck driver that wanted to park in the Fire Lane and got pissed when I told him no. Some people thing that none of the rules apply to them. Don't they know that I am the only person that is true for.

I had another person that wanted a key to a room but had no I.D.. He said he was the person registered to the room but when I had him sign his name it looked nothing like the signature on the reg card. I refused to give him a key. He fussed and fumed and I still refused. He yelled and stomped his feet and I still refused. He threatened me and I laughed and still refused. He finally caught on and left. I guess he wasn't as stupid as he looked.

All the other people I've dealt with tonight has been polite and pleasant. The drunks that have come in have actually been the funny ones and not the mean ones tonight.

I have to start setting up breakfast soon so I'll be back tomorrow.

Back To The Main Job

I missed my post for Monday night. No excuse I just got busy doing other things and ran out of time.

Back to my main job. Slow night so far doing paperwork and listening to music. So far tonight I've listened to:

Monument To The Masses by Ima Robot
Dig by I Mother Earth
Paging Mr. Strike by Machine Gun Fellatio
We Have An Emergency by Operation M.D.
A Classy Mess by The Bad Scene

Right now I'm listening to Product Of Black Days by Birthmark.

The time here is 3:41 A.M.. I know the posting time shows something different .

I've already balanced all of the paperwork for the day and did the billing for the week so far and I've just finished eating my lunch. I'm just killing time until time to go home. Once I get home I'll probably change clothes and go for a bike ride. I think I'll cut through Greenlawn Cemetary and take the bike trail into downtown Columbus and back home again. That will be just over 15 miles.

I either ride my bike ( or the exercise bike in the basement depending on the weather) 6 days a week. I usually go 15 to 20 miles each day but once a week, usually on Saturday or Sunday I'll go on a longer ride. Between 25 to 30 miles. The most I've done on one trip is 33 miles. I've lost 75 pounds doing this and still have 5 to 10 pounds more I'd like to get rid of. I quit smoking 2 and a half years ago and went up to 275 pounds in the first year after I quit. Compared to losing the weight quitting smoking was easy. It was worth it though. I smoked for 31 years and was smoking 3 packs a day when I quit. I could never have ridden 33 miles on a bike back then, I would have had a stroke. I didn't do anything special to quit. No patches or gum I just didn't smoke. The first four days were really hard but after that I just wanted it, I no longer needed it. After that it was easy.

Well I think I'm going to check my email and surf for a while. I'll be back tomorrow.

Sunday Night

I'm at my second job tonight( the motel with the Spanish name ). I work here Sunday and Monday nights. This is a more expensive motel than the one I work at full time and I almost never get walk-ins at night here. Working here is almost like having time off.

I can't play music here because there are rooms right next to the front desk. Instead I watch TV shows I've downloaded off the net. Tonight I've watched the fourth episode of the mini series Taken about alien abductions and the ninth episode of Eureka for this season. After I finish with this I'll watch episode 10. Eureka is one of my favorite shows right now.

A woman in her thirties came to the desk earlier and turned in her key. She said she was waiting for a ride. She told me that she was staying in a room with her boyfriend but that he went out earlier in the evening and never came back. I think she was starting to flirt with me ( I say I think because I've never been good at subtleties, I just don't catch on to that stuff easily) when luckily I got a call to make a reservation and that kept me busy until her ride got here.

The rest of the night has been slow and uneventful. I probably won't see anyone else until after 6:00.

That's about it for tonight. I'll be back tomorrow.

The Drunks Are Out

It's not as busy as last night. A lot of the softball teams staying with us lost and checked out this morning.
There was a band in the bar tonight which I can hear at the front desk. They really sucked. The bar features music from the 70's. I loved 70's music in the 70's but come on. When was the last time you really said "I'd love to hear some Peter Frampton right now."?

Speaking of music I am listening to the CD Start Something by The Lost Prophets next I think I'll go with something by Reel Big Fish or Machine Gun Fellatio.

I've had a few drunks from the bar check in tonight. One was a regular I'll call N.H.. She is a very attractive older women who looks much younger than her 61 years. (She would never admit to being 61 but she left her ID at the desk one night when she checked in and I peeked)
She usually checks in with one of two different guys. One pays for the room the other always lets her pay. I don't think either of them know her true age nor do they probably really care after being in the bar all night.

I had another couple check in and while he was filling out the reg card she asked if they got a discount because it was late. I told her I was giving them a 10% discount and she asked me if they could get more off if she showed me her tits. She then lifted her T-shirt to show them to me. The man just kept filling out the reg card and never even flinched. They were nice tits so I gave them an additional 10% off the room and told her thank you. I made a note of the time and I'll have to tell day shift to check the security video, he'll get a kick out of it.

It's been a while since anyone has flashed me at the desk. I've had offers of sex for free rooms in the past but have always said no. You never know what you could catch. If they ever find a vaccine for AIDS it will be the 70's all over again and everyone will be screwing everyone else until they feel like they've caught up.

I've started a series of lessons on the computer on how to build web sites using Dream Weaver tonight. It seems like it will be easy enough if I can stay awake through the lessons.

Once again if anyone else in the motel business has any stories they would like to share please email me and I will post them here.

Tomorrow night I will be at the other motel ( The one with the Spanish name ) . I also have access to a computer there so I will be back then.

Later.

Softball And Bad Money

The softball tournament is going on at Berliner Park and it's been a busier night than usual. The first part of the night was busy with checking people in , wake-up calls, and giving people directions to the ball park for the morning. Still it's been a peaceful night until my last customer.

He gave me a Fifty and a Ten to pay for his room. I marked the Fifty with the counterfeit pen and it came up dark so I refused to accept it. He told me to wait a minute and went out and got a friend to come back in with him. His friend said I didn't have a choice I had to take the Fifty.
I'm 6"2" tall and 200 pounds. I ride my bicycle 15 to 20 miles daily and lift weights. I'm pretty sure I have a choice. I told him I would not accept the Fifty. He called me stupid so I refused to check him in until he apologized. He said he'd go somewhere else and I explained to him that the door went both ways and that it was nice of him to drop by. He apologized and I checked him in after taking different money which I marked in front of him.

Some day I'll tell you my opinion on the saying that "The customer is always right.".

So far it looks like I'm the only one who has visited this blog. I'll have to find out how to get more people to know where it is.

Be back soon.

Another Slow Night

Like the title says it's another slow night and I'm sitting in front of the computer again.
I've had a terrible cold this week and it's really kicking my ass. All I want to do is sleep.
I haven't been on my bicycle sine Monday morning. I usually do 15 to 20 miles a day but not this week. Oh well my legs could use the break.

I'm listening to the newest cd from Hot Hot Heat called Happiness LTD. So far I like it.

The weekend should be busier there is a softball tournament in Columbus.

If anyone actually reads this and has any motel adventures of their own they would like to share please e-mail them to me and I will post them here.

Not much more to say right now. I think I'll read for a while.

Later.

The Next Night

I'm back.
It's been a slow night for customers but a busy night for paperwork.
I help do the direct billing for the companies that have charge accounts for their employees. I do this every Wednesday night. I just finished the billing so I thought I'd add another post and tell you a little about myself.

I'm male, 49 married with three daughters. The oldest daughter will be 12 this month and the twins ( yes twins ) turned 10 in July. All three of the girls are in Enrichment classes in school ( they must get that from their mom ), and all three are Girl Scouts so let me know if you need cookies.

I spend a lot of my free time on night shift reading and listening to music. The book I'm reading now is a collection of short stories by Harlan Ellison called The Beast That Shouted Love At The Heart Of The World. I turn the music on as soon as I get to work and it plays until the day shift gets here at 7:00 A.M.. So far tonight I've listened to the following CDs:

They're Everywhere by Jim's Big Ego
So They Say by So They Say
Living With The Living by Ted Leo and The Pharmacists
Cexcells by Blaqk Audio

Some of you may think that this is a strange selection of music for a guy that graduated high school in 1976. Looking at some of the people I went to school with I'd have to agree. Is it all generations that get stuck on the music they listened to in high school or just mine. Most the people I grew up with are still listening to Foghat and Ted Nugent. My musical taste has continued to change all through my life. I think this is a good thing.

That's enough about me for tonight I'll be back tomorrow.

Hi. I've been in the motel business since 1981. I started out driving a courtesy van for an independent motel went to being a desk clerk to doing the night audit and spent 18 years as a General Manager until the property I managed was sold. I am once again a night auditor. I work seven nights a week ( always between 11:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. ) for two different motels in a small town in central Ohio. My last night off was Thanksgiving of 2005.

I have a lot of free time on this shift and thought I would spend part of it either thrilling or boring you with the nightly events of motel life.

Along the way I will be revealing things about my life outside of the motel, and may even be treating you to flashbacks of motel adventures from the past.

I will do my best to add daily entries. These will usually be done during the time I am at work and all names will be changed to protect the guilty.

I hope you will check back to see how my night life goes.
